Still in the realm of old school assignments to remake scenes from books & movies, we have a painting from the Wizard of Oz book, where Dorothy and her friends are being saved from creatures called "hammer heads." My interpretation was a bit silly...

In more "scenes from books/movies," here's a *bad* one from Wicked (the book). I was too overloaded with assignments that week to deal with good color balance. The only thing I like about it was leaning into the goldfishy descriptions of Miss Morrible 😅

Building off of the last post, back with another graphic interpretation of a movie scene: The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, showing the Headless Horseman chasing Ichabod as he races towards the bridge. Probably another one I would love to redo one day. Acrylic on board.

After a brief delay, back with more.

We're done with the portrait series for now. Today I'm sharing an old concept piece in black and white for the movie "Real Genius," done for a class assignment restricting us to a flat monochrome style.

I might redo this one someday.

Rounding out the pastel oversized portrait series is this green piece, showing two "action" poses of the same person.

Another one in the portraiture series, and one of my favorites due to the angles, expression, and color scheme.

And today we have the 2nd portrait in a series of 2 showing a self portrait young (from yesterday) and hypothetically aged (today's).

Here we have another portrait: the first in a series of 2 showing a self portrait young (shown here) and another in the same pose, hypothetically aged (coming tomorrow).

Sorry for the delay folks, mix of travel and getting sick was no bueno.

Today we have another in a line of large pastel portraits, of my nonplussed roommate "posing" while trying to write an essay. 👩🏻‍💻

I was def having fun with color themed backgrounds on these. #art #drawing #portrait

Another from college portraiture, one where we had to draw someone making a funny face alongside a normal face. Not my best, not my worst.

Continuing with my portraiture class #portraits, this is one of my favorites. A friend from school was always creative with his poses, and it was fun to think of the color blocking for this one. I'd never used pastels before this class and I fell in love with them after it.

We'll kick it back off with one of many large (4'+) pastel portraits I made in college. This was during a time when I had to switch to using my left hand while my right arm was injured. A different style emerged as a result.

Fittingly, here's "Self portrait in a sling"

A bit late today, here's a weird illustration I once made of a scone fairy. You know, that bright pink harpy that delivers fresh baked scones. Take that, storks.

Today's art comes from a sketchbook I had for my "illustration in journalism" class. The following are concept sketches on the topic of "the new economy" -- clearly, I did not think highly of said economy ☠️

Today we have a page from a comic I worked on as part of a narrative illustration class. See if you can guess what it's about.

Two words: "Crab Man"

In keeping with yesterday's Creepy Christmas Turtle Topiaries, today we have a set of illustrations I had made of ocean-themed Christmas topiaries for an outdoor venue.

That walrus looks like it's about to jump into a game of footy with a pal.

To make some extra 💸 in college, I did illustrations for a company that specialized in Christmas installations for shopping centers.

Today's post is of dancing "A Christmas Carol" topiary turtles I illustrated. I wonder what Dickens would think?

Today's post is from a school sketchbook, an assignment to depict phobias. While not my finest, clearly I had fun with Zim-inspired colors and even created a popup panel.

I'm guessing the phobia was of the crowd type (I really should have labelled these).

Outside of my #ArtIMade posts, I also write about and practice user onboarding design. Today I'm sharing tips from Chapter 2 of my book "Better Onboarding" which outlines the fundamentals to get right before kicking off on an onboarding [re]design 🧵

Welcome to the weekend with this blast from the past.

I used to draw buildings for freelance projects. This one was a drawing of a bed and breakfast cottage in the US, for a chamber of commerce's small business page.

We close out the week with not high art, but a scribble from my early sketchnote days: "Carol wants to turn her CRAP into 💰 so she can buy NEW CRAP"

I think this is in reference to some kind of e-commerce thing?

In this post we go to an old, sketchy cartoon vignette, "Sisyphean Floaty Fish."

My parents used to have a goldfish with a bladder problem that caused it to float. It constantly tried to right itself, and always failed. Truly a case study for life. 🐟
