The White House claimed “Gulf of America” was a fact, and that AP’s refusal to use it meant they weren't reporting facts.
But the judge disagreed, calling it a viewpoint, not a fact—meaning the gov’t can’t use differences in viewpoint it to deny press access.

🧵/2 In AP v. Budowich, the court ruled that the White House violated the First Amendment by excluding the AP from press events over editorial choices.
At issue: AP will continue to use the established term "Gulf of Mexico" and refuses to use the term “Gulf of America.”
