Yeah, this is common, to assume that just because we work within capitalism now, we are ok with at least some capitalism. Most of us would like to have a society with capitalism absolutely illegal, just like slavery is illegal. That’s a democratic choice.

That’s true, but the problem is that she followed her confusing vote up with a statement that said she always supports funding for defensive weapons like the Iron Dome. So she supports the defense of a (genocidal, her word) country, with no defense of Gaza.

I skim completed it, mostly reading the insufficient summaries and making a best guess. For the first couple pages I was re-reading whole resolutions and even asking forum questions, but that was bog slow.

If DSA had existed in the Soviet Union its members would have been imprisoned or exiled or killed.

Lol, depends on the chapter. Usually roberts rules, committee reports, maybe a resolution, some political education, some snacks.

I'm impressed with all of the DSA member politicians you manage to dig up. Many seem to be unendorsed, is that right? More like quiet members.

Welcome, and you joined, you did not subscribe : ) I mean, we don't even have a hard copy publication any more. But we have meetings, so go to those!

Moving season. We started a “comrades helping comrades” section in our newsletter and the first two requests were for moving help. People did too!

Thank you for spreading the good word that is socialism, Phil BuildTheFutureNow. DSA seeks to build a future for everyone, not just the lucky few—a just, beautiful, abundant and diverse future.

How much did they spend building public pressure and organizing against it instead of asking for donations? Politics is more than the next election, it’s building movements.

Cool, and welcome! I’m 59 and DSA is great.

Our “no billionaires” platform might be a turnoff for him.

Yes, run as inspiring Democratic Socialists and members of DSA, with strong, consistent, economically populist messaging. And don't bend to AIPAC.

Packing the vote!

NYC has about 10 percent of overall membership, and really the other chapters are doing fine. NYC-DSA is doing well, Zohran is awesome, but even our chapter of 140 has 4 socialists in office.

Chapters have been getting better at onboarding. Ours grew from 100 to 144 since Trump this November, so we get practice. I was a Green myself before Nader ran (late nineties).

I think we have chapters in most states. I don’t see Wyoming and Alaska on the list (used to have two in Alaska, but sometimes they fizzle).
June 27, 2025 at 11:51 PM
You will hear about caucuses, but most members are not in them. DSA politics mostly occurs in chapters, and they vary. Ours is small (144 members). We decide things democratically at meetingsplan stuff in smaller working groups and committees. The politics range from social-democrat to communism.

Don't forget the first DSA mayor, Dinkins (not endorsed, I think)... jacobin.com/2020/11/davi...
What David Dinkins Taught Us
Whatever his failings, the late New York mayor David Dinkins's historic stature and contributions to the common good gave him a unique place in the democratic socialist movement.
