Both were likely named after the Newcastle in Wales, which was also a big mining settlement.
Interestingly, there’s a Pittsburg (no H) in California, so named because it was a mining town like Pittsburgh. 😅

Interestingly, in Australia the term “partner” is nearly universal in folks under 45 or so, married or not.
I used “partner” when we were unmarried in the US fully knowing that some people would assume it was a woman. After we got married I started to use “husband” a little more.
