To ensure the equalisation agenda moves beyond rhetoric into actual change in how GH partnerships are approached, understood and acted upon, we must move beyond the 'want to help' narrative (Alexander, 2014) and critically reflect on how existing 'partnerships' maintain GH power imbalances.

Most works described partnerships that positioned Scottish actors as sources of expertise with partner country actors as beneficiaries, replicating the donor-aid model. Motivations for partnerships also frequently appeared to valorise Scottish histories of imperial medicine & dip into saviourism.
