I’ve always felt that it’s difficult to incorporate text into my work. These days, I’m finding it hard to make work without it.
The phrase “my country hates women” machine sewn in black onto a gray fabric dress multiple times A necklace made out of individual hand bent and hammered brass letters that spell “LET’S GO FULL LYSISTRATA ON THIS BITCH”. The letters are joined with sterling silver jump rings and the chain is made of brass ovals connected in the same way. A closeup of a woman’s neckline wearing a necklace that spells out in hand formed and hammered brass letters “MANDATORY VASECTOMIES NOW”. The letters and handmade chain are joined with sterling silver jump rings. The words are stacked so that mandatory is on top, vasectomies is connected below that, and now is connected below vasectomies. The necklace is large enough to cover the entire decollete area An image of a woman’s forearm wearing a large, shiny brass cuff with letters cut out of it. Using my profound privilege of having the Barnes in my backyard to do the people’s work.

Today I give you Focusing on Not Paintings—the derpiest things I could find in the Barnes:
A derpy pudgy bird made of of two big clamshells for body and other little shells for feet and head and a crab claw for a long beak on a tiny platform A derpy looking bird made of a lobster claw for the body and another smaller claw for the beak. It has long skinny wire legs and is looking sideways at the viewer. A very derpy faced four legged small figure made of bronze. It has an open smile, a defined nose, droopy eyes and long ears that stand upright. It also has very cute knobby knees. A framed pencil drawing of a little old lady hunched but vigorously waving an American flag. Frame is labeled with the artist Glackens.

I made the plaster melons as a study for another work for which I eventually ended up casting in paper. The self portrait is from the pandemic lockdown.

They lived separately in my studio for a long time before I understood that they needed to be together.
An installation of a self portrait of the artist painted in oil on panel. In the painting, the figure is shown from the shoulders up and is gazing down on the viewer with her chin in her hand. She looks annoyed or maybe exhausted or maybe frustrated. Beneath the painting, on a tall pedestal are two cantaloupe melons cast in plaster. The arrangement makes it seem as if the subject is looking down on the melons which are at about where chest-height would be on the figure if the painting was extended.
