But the politics leading to the gutting of the NIH, the NSF, and academic research are going to destroy any chance of that research fulfilling its potential. My heart is extra heavy today. Forgive my sad rant. It's been a rough couple of weeks.

Unfortunately liver melanoma generally doesn't respond to traditional chemotherapy or immunotherapy. But the next game-changing therapy for cancer, for Alzheimer's disease, for the next pandemic-inducing infectious disease could be in a basic science lab right now.

Scientific research has improved the prognosis for so many diseases, including cancers. Immunotherapies are a shining example of basic science-turned-game changing therapy for cancer, and likely other diseases.
