On Inauguration Day 2022, I swore my oath of office on his medals and armband — a promise to continue my family’s legacy of service. My dad, who passed away this year, shared that special moment with me.

For me, remembrance is also personal. My grandfather, Alfred John Loughton, served in the First World War as a conscientious objector and stretcher bearer. He spent four years in the trenches, including at Vimy Ridge,

🪶 INDIGENOUS VETRANS DAY 🪶

Today, we honour and remember the First Nations, Inuit, and Métis people who served and sacrificed for Canada.

The 2025 Poppy Campaign is underway 🌺

Every poppy helps support Canadian Armed Forces members, veterans, and their families. The campaign is run entirely by volunteers — a testament to their commitment to community care.

Happy Thanksgiving, Victoria!

Today, I’m grateful for the people who make our city such a vibrant and caring community — and for the privilege of living and serving on the homelands of the lək̓ʷəŋən Peoples, known today as the Songhees and Xwsepsum Nations.

Today, Canada has its first First Nations premier, Wab Kinew — a leader who once fought to replace the term “residential school student” with “residential school survivor.” His journey is a testament to the brilliance & strength of Indigenous Peoples, & a reminder that progress is indeed possible.

🧵Today, Victoria Council voted 7–1 against a motion to end decriminalization.

The motion was misguided. It falsely claimed decriminalization has been “especially harmful” without evidence. In reality, the crisis we face is driven by the toxic, fentanyl-contaminated supply—not decriminalization.
