I guess it's just a difference of interpretation of the words as I think the author meant blood as bloodline (so lineage/nationality more than blood purity) but then it -is- a war anthem so it's to be expected for it to be hyperbolic

If you read the whole song the impure blood is the one of invading tyrants and soldiers coming in our homes and murdering our "wives and sons", also the context is that it was written after the revolution when all neighboring countries considered France weakened and tried invading, just saying
