Couple days ago, despite the snow storm I decided to go ahead with running my community sewing program in Scarborough. To my surprise tons of folks still showed up. Brings a tear to my eye to know I created a program people are willing to come out to in the middle of a snow storm for 🥲

Good on SHN for trying to raise funds, but its a sad state when we have to rely on a multi-millionaires gambling addiction to raise funds for our hospitals 😔. Scarborough receives only 1% of hospital donations in Toronto, while Doug Ford is intentionally starving our health care system.

Nature Stewarding: This is a program that's actually run by the City of Toronto, but similar groups may exist elsewhere. You go out into a shared green space every week, remove invasive plants, plant native plants and in general help keep it clean.

Bird Watching: During peak migration season, around 18 weeks a year, we go out to different parks in our community and look at birds. It's fun learning together and we now have a stash of extra binoculars that we can let other groups borrow too.(5/6)

Repair Cafe: Every month we organize fixers who enjoy repairing things and put on a program to fix local residents bikes, appliances, computers and clothes.(4/6)

Social Sewing: A weekly program where folks come in to use our machines, materials and more that were mostly donated to us and learn from each other. We also do classes for folks that are completely new to sewing.(3/6)

Today my mom hit the picket line in Toronto along with other Canada Post workers for better wages. Everyone I spoke to was in high spirits and as some one who used to work as a postal worker, I know first hand how hard they work.
