I was disappointed to find the box of Fun Pills was empty today

Dr Zaius has strong opinions on classic pop music

(from a 1975 Planet Of The Apes annual I found in a junk shop the other week)

Just got back from a cinema screening of the original 1925 version of The Phantom Of The Opera, with a thunderous live score in a baroque-Mogwai style from Minima. It's fantastic that a film that's 100 years old can still be as beautiful, gripping and weird as it was back then. Movies are great.

Also used on the cover of this great album by one of my favourite bands

Absolutely! We also gave the world this, of course:

I know it’s a bit early to be buying Christmas tree decorations, but when I saw this pissed-up mouse in an overcoat I had to get him

Tonight's Halloween viewing! I'm opting for the old classics again

Acid Reflux fills my oesophagus with fear on a regular basis anyway, so I’m going as The Weeny Witch or The Red Hot Goblin

Just found out my nephew is going to be a Dad, which is good news for him and means I will soon be a Great Uncle, like Great Uncle Bulgaria. Time for me to get some tartans and start reading The Times in a large comfy armchair

Going into town today to do some shopping, it’s nice to feel wanted

What I saw on my travels today - a box of foxes!

(I bought three but there’s a very real risk that I’ll go back tomorrow with a large carrier bag)

I seem to be quite good at finding unexpected things in charity shops, but it's going to be hard to top these handmade cross-stitch portraits of Sparks

Thom's meltdown music makes me think of those "Happy Hardcore" albums we used to sell when I was a music shop guy, he could have a hit with that! Here's my own "get this out of my head *now*" music from when I was very tiny. The YTV fanfare is an intrinsic part of it.

I don’t think I’ll be adding Killer AI Beer to my shopping list! I’m sticking with my twee furry beers instead

Currently wondering whether to face my fears by buying this charity shop mug that looks like the black rabbit of death from Watership Down. This character scared the crap out of me when I was a little kid, and I still can’t watch that bit of the film without a shudder

Cress for success! The dinosaur cress forest has finally bloomed! There must be enough for maybe one cheese sandwich there

Found this She-Ra book from 1985 in a charity shop, and it’s got an excellent bara monster in it. There’s no way the positioning of that bat wasn’t deliberate!

Lidl may be getting into the Halloween spirit a little too enthusiastically

He’s made some great records (particularly Gnarls Barkley and The Grey Album) but I’m disappointed he never dressed up as his namesake

Found my budget fursuit in Tescos last night
October 16, 2025 at 9:22 AM
Saw this great “don’t let your dog poop on the grass” sign on my walk today
October 12, 2025 at 4:07 PM
Holy crap I only found a signed John Waters book in a charity shop today! John Waters has touched this, and now I have too. I may not wash my hands for a few days

Dinosaur Cress Forest Update! The forest is hardly flourishing but at least there’s been some movement on the cress front. Given that the seeds and compost were “use by June 2022” I’m impressed that anything’s growing at all

Anyone who thinks AI album covers are a great idea probably also thinks this XTC sleeve by Hipgnosis isn’t satire
