and Blake on drums revived this song in a fresh way. He's a versatile drummer and was even in a reggae band in the past. I really love how he pulled off the one-drop and all the triplet side-sticks. so tasteful!

about that solo. I've been mostly a shredder in my younger years, but for this I wanted to be more tasteful soulful. It's more of a variation of the melodica melody. looking back at it, it's very George Harrison. in this version, I end with fingertapping arpeggios to remind y'all that I shred lol

for this power trio Calabio Twins, we've stripped it down to minimal instruments with the melodica melody being played by @skidmarq.bsky.social on the bass guitar

this song was my go-to song to play when @skidmarq.bsky.social and I would perform at open mics. we've jammed on it with multiple collaborators (percussionists, backup singers, etc.) for years and years even to this day. it sort of feels like my theme song

but I remember the musical inspiration came when I was taking a walk in a canyon near my apartment. I was thinking of a reggae rockers groove. and was drawing influence from Augustus Pablo, and had the interlude melody played on melodica

I wrote the song when I was in college. I was experimenting with mixing weed and coffee in the morning and attempting to finish a computer science assignment. I felt like I could code the universe from scratch. I was also really into Carl Sagan's Cosmos at the time, hence "apple pie from scratch"

I'm thinking of doing a series of posts talking about each track. We're a pretty new band but our previous project Platypus Egg was around for 15 years. many of the songs in our live set are old Platypus Egg songs reworked for our new band, most notably @skidmarq.bsky.social and I singing lead vox
