Starting the week of cooking as I do every year with Alice’s Restaurant since it the only Thanksgiving song I know of. Seems more relevant this year.

It is a sad state of affairs that when I scan the news on Bluesky everything sounds like it is from The Onion.

From my HR Department today: "The cost of our 2026 medical/Rx coverages reflect an 11.1% increase across all plans". And to keep the costs down they raised the deductible. Thanks Republicans.

About twelve years ago I arrived to my job at NSF a little earlier than usual to prepare for a panel. The elevator was empty. As the doors were closing a woman slipped in behind me, and I said, "which floor?" She said six and that is the morning I rode the elevator with Jane Goodall. 😢

Just unsubscribed to Disney Plus. When asked the reason why I copy and pasted Clark Griswold's rant from Christmas Vacation, but replaced Frank Shirley with Bob Iger.

Did you know that decades before pulling @jimmykimmel.com from the air Disney used to make war propaganda films vilifying the Axis and promoting American values such as freedom? Just go to YouTube and search for "disney ww2 propaganda cartoons".

I am not a big fan of my representative GT Thompson's voting record, but I am impressed that the last two times I called his office in DC I got to speak with a human being. Kudos to him for staffing the lines. If you are in his district please call and ask him to vote no on the budget bill.

It is a long document, but the NSF budget request to Congress eviscerates science funding (57% cut) and zeros out STEM education. Summary budget starts on page 204. Great way to destroy our future. Make America Gormless Again. nsf-gov-resources.nsf.gov/files/00-NSF...
