So with your piece, you’ve done well on the neck area defining your light source. So for the left side of face to be consistent with that the left side should be darker overall and the right should be lighter at its brightest points. then bring in more of the forms of the details

I can tell! I’d say when looking to improve on light placement - find a reference or make one yourself. Look at the large irregular shapes where the light falls and keep the overall gradient from the darkest to lightest parts of the whole composition (and the overall primitive shape) consistent
