The info my author husband got refers to splitting the payment 50-50 with his publisher, and uses the figure of $3k. I have not read carefully yet, so I am not certain that the $3 is an absolute number or whether it was just used as an example. Obv., if you self-published, there's no split.

It is so difficult. Grew up with absolute in-your-face racism in my family. Left, became librul'd, was declared persona non grata and try not to willingly return. But I still know many worthy Southerners and I love so many places down there.
