A Democracy Repair Cafe, much like a vibrant makerspace 💡🔨, isn’t about solitary lament or top-down decrees. It’s an invitation to gather around the workbench, sleeves rolled up 💪, tools in hand 🧰.

Why did we construct a society where fundamental rights—the right to eat, the right to health—are treated as political footballs, entirely subject to the whims of the party in power? 👑https://radiotippingpoint.substack.com/publish/post/178013462

The profound desire for change is precisely why we must pivot from the old models of social help—namely, the Non-Profit Industrial Complex (NPIC)—to a genuine, community-led system of Universal Basic Services (UBS).

🤷‍♀️A natural, almost instinctual, reaction sets in: increased risk aversion. 🐢 The desire to hold onto what little influence they retain becomes paramount. Every policy decision, every public statement, is weighed against the potential for further loss. 😟

"I mightn't have done much good in my life, but at least I contributed to the destruction of the planet. And I systematically sabotaged the selective recycling system put in place by the Residents Association by chucking empty wine bottles in the bin meant for paper."

Reverend Margot Richardson, a hospice chaplain, found her sacred work reduced to "productivity points," where a visit to the dying was one point, and a phone call to grieving relatives a mere quarter point.

By outsourcing our skills, we lost them. The knowledge of how to do things—to build, to fix, to create—began to fade from our collective memory 🧠

We must start with a conscious effort to unlearn our conditioning. This could mean simple things, like pausing before swatting a spider, or more profound shifts, like re-evaluating our relationship with food and waste. The solution isn't about "managing" nature; it's about rejoining it.

A few even took me home to meet their families. The simple act of sharing a meal with a stranger made a political barrier seem like a flimsy, almost ridiculous construct. I began to understand that "othering" was not a natural human state, but a vehicle, a tool of manipulation.

From Paris in 1830, where revolutionaries reset the clock, the town clock, to throw all of this into kilter against the monarch's control, to Martial Baudin's 1894 attempt to blow up the clock at Greenwich Park, people understood the correlation between time and control.

Jean-Paul Sartre's idea that "we are condemned to be free," we always have a choice, it's a profound burden ⛓️. Viktor Frankl's pursuit of meaning, fostering existence and purpose. Vita Activa, differentiating it from labor. True satisfaction comes from "just being" ✨.

"certificate industrial complex" – a system that, in many ways, functions as another mechanism for keeping people "in their place." Individuals may possess the inherent cognitive abilities, yet are either burdened by a lack of self-worth, preventing them from even envisioning upward mobility.

radiotippingpoint.substack.com/p/i-consume-... Can we say that consumption was triggered by our original parents, Adam and Eve? They had everything they needed. Nothing to consume, neither were they producers.
