My son is exactly like me and I now have the tools to guide him in ways that I was never provided. I stress to him to be himself, his full authentic self, no matter what. And to use his gift of intellect to go into a field that will bring good and kindness into the world. That’s the best we can do.

Eventually, you lose your original sense of self and when you finally take time to deconstruct who you are, to be true to yourself, it feels like an impossible task and it hurts a LOT emotionally and leads to a lot of meltdowns. So the best advice I can give is the same that I give to my own son.

Each mask that you bear to fit in within a certain system or social group will cause a lot of emotional anguish and torment later. You begin to feel a lot of existential dread, because your personality is actually an amalgamation of other peoples personalities that you’ve taken on yourself to fit in

The best thing you can do imo is acknowledge that the world is different for him, and always will be. Something that I had to learn the hard way is that by trying to “fit in” to a system that literally isn’t built for you, you must sacrifice parts of yourself.

This article is interesting, but I wish it went into more detail in regard to how defective Myelin inhibits the efficiency of our brain cells to communicate. Specifically, what kind of behaviors does this genetic malfunction cause, relative to a fully functioning Axon. Neat article though!
