Kicking off the winter with our latest paper on bacterial cellulose (BC) secretion 🤩🤩🤩!! Roles for BcsD/CesD beyond BC crystallinity and more dedicated intracellular BcsD-Proline rich partner scaffolds for cellulose secretion across Proteobacteria:

We showed that the crystallinity factor BcsD is driven into a 3D supramolecular scaffold by the Pro-rich BcsH, or cellulose complementing factor. These proteins were thought to drive periplasmic cellulose extrusion, yet we showed that they act inside-out to array the synthase terminal complexes.
