A French researcher was not allowed to enter the U.S. to attend a congress "because the researcher's phone contained exchanges with colleagues and friends in which he expressed a personal opinion about the Trump administration's research policies."

Can you find Tamgrūt on this wonderful map of Morocco, designed by @kaohu11.bsky.social, created by Martin Grosch?

And here some fond memories from 2021, when I traveled through the Darʿa Valley and regretted some of my life choices for a few days, like why didn't I become a geologist?

My article on the library of the Sufi brotherhood al-Nāṣiriyya in Tamgrūt, a small village in the far south of Morocco, has finally been published. Founded in the 17th century, with more than 4,700 manuscripts still in place, it is a fascinating institution. Take a look!

This reminds me of the poem "Nayl al-āmāl fī ziyārat ashrāf al-niʿāl" by ʿAbd al-Salām b. al-Ṭayyib al-Sharafī al-Andalusī (d. 1929). I'd love to read an article on this! :)

Impressive list of volumes copied! I am interested a lot in copyists from the 17th & 18th centuries, especially from the Maghrib 😊 and I wonder if this man is the grandson of the littérateur Muḥammad Ibn Zākūr (d. 1708). Is the MS in Maghribi script? How did it end up in Egypt? An interesting case!

The only thing I find a bit strange is the illustration on the cover of this "Exile's Cookbook". Not very North African/Andalusian.

Reminds me of this publication, with a nice Maghribī plate on the cover, while it contained not a single article dealing with the Maghrib.

Published about two months ago, 600 pages long.

What a wonderful resource to have while pondering the alleged and much debated prophetic descent of ʿAbd al-Qādir al-Jīlānī and its relevance to his sainthood.

Still hard work though: French! 😮‍💨
