I refuse to use more than 2% brain capacity on work emails. ChatGPT can absolutely drool into a keyboard on my behalf if it means I don't have to

VR is possible, but still pretty jank. It's nowhere near as painless as flat gaming yet, sadly

*Canonical made some questionable and unpopular decisions in recent times, but as of right now, it's still a good choice. I've heard Ubuntu described as the Honda Civic of linux distros, and I think that's apt.

Depending on your usecase, there might be better options:

Gamer - Bazzite
Tinkerer - Pop! OS
Just want it to fkn work - Ubuntu/Kubuntu* (Mint fits here too)
Determined to learn, not matter how hard/painful it is - Arch
No, really, make it hurt - LFS

Choosing a distro is half the fun.

There's even an argument to be made for NOT using Mint if you plan to distro hop in the future. While you CAN install Cinnamon on other distros, that's not very beginner friendly. If you're gonna learn a new environment, better to learn KDE or Gnome, which are more widespread (but choose KDE imho)

Agree with the sentiment, disagree with 2. Nothing wrong with mint, but they're JUST trying to be an OOTB good experience. It looks and feels like OLD Windows (~7). If that's your thing, great, but if you're from Mac land, or just want something fresh, it might be better to shop around.

I mean, obvious danger aside, it's really aesthetically pleasing! Beauty is worth risking a few fingers for

I had fun with it though! If you're resistant to a bit of frustration, it's a good hobby that doesn't take up too much time. I'm also really enjoying building a music collection again. Spotify gives me choice paralysis, which is actually why I did it in the first place

As for eoe, I believe they're like 1 or 2 people essentially keeping the whole industry alive. They were a bit slow, but they did always eventually get back to me, and the support I got was good. I'd say patience is key there

I find opening the 7th gen to be more annoying than difficult. You'll definitely get it open, but you have to be really slow and careful to not damage the case or yourself. 5th gen is supposed to be easier, but I've never tried.

Oh, and one other tip: tape the adapter down with some kapton tape. I didn't, and now it rattles when you shake it. I'm sick of opening and closing it though so I'm just living with it like that lol

but ye, really do get a smaller battery. An update to this is that I had to get a second main board because I damaged the first one trying to force the battery in. Because of that, and because I ended up buying 3 batteries total,it would have been cheaper to just buy a modern DAP

It's a thin case gen 7 with two 1tb sd cards. I used the generic dual sd adapter from eoe.works
