FTR, I agree with you. All of this shows how fragile our system is. The law can easily be ignored. "This is against the law" doesn't actually mean anything if the enforcement apparatus effectively doesn't exist. My cynicism is I don't see that changing in the near-term. Hope I'm being short-sighted.

If anyone still thinks that these laws still matter are fooling themselves. The Hatch Act violations from 2017 are still waiting in the wings to be called up.
