Murray Sinclair led Canada to confront hard truths — about colonialism, residential schools, the failures of our criminal legal system, and the injustice faced by Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people. He pushed for change and helped to build pathways forward. 2/4

This week, as the Senate’s Legal and Constitutional Affairs Committee begins its study of the bill, we are one step closer to meaningful limits, judicial oversight, transparency, and finally ending the use of solitary confinement and segregation in federal prisons. 4/4

No one should endure isolation that amounts to torture. Yet, Indigenous and Black prisoners continue to be disproportionately isolated, and people with disabilities are still being segregated instead of supported.
