@kpassionate.bsky.social did a video on these orcas a while back.

Turns out these orcas are like humans when it comes to shark fins - they eat one part and let the rest rot.
The liver is like shark candy, in more ways than one.

An all white humpback whale named Migaloo is believed to have been spotted for the first time since 2020! The sighting happened 5 days ago. Stay tuned for more marine bio news!

Size is the least interesting thing about elephant seals. When they dive they slip into REM sleep which causes them to flip into their backs and spiral downward until they reach depths of 2000 meters. Then they hunt for squid etc. while swimming to the surface. All of this can take around an hour. 🦭

Did you know that whales breathe backwards? They exhale first and then inhale in a fast and powerful breath that allows them to exchange around 90% of the air in their lungs! In comparison, humans can do about 60% if they are trying REALLY hard.

You are what you eat when you are a sea otter! Sea otters have been known to specialize on foods like purple sea urchins. They also can eat ALOT of them. So many that sometimes their teeth and even bones turn purple!

Ever wondered what happened to Oregon’s #seaotters 🤨?

Our friend and marine biologist, @kpassionate.bsky.social , recently created a great summary video breaking down the translocation effort from over 50 years ago. KP is here to help educate and bring you up to speed!

Whale and dolphin species you have never heard of! Meet the hourglass dolphin. This gorgeous species frequents the cold Antarctic and sub-antarctic waters. The beautiful coloration is known as counter-shading and acts as camouflage in the ocean! Did you know about the hourglass dolphin?

The Meg was even bigger than we thought! But still extinct…sorry guys 😂

New study shows that megalodon was likely even larger than we think and looked more like a lemon shark! This is in part due to the laws of hydrodynamics which would require that an animal that size be less bulky and more streamlined.

J62 is likely the calf of J41 Eclipse! Both J41 and her mom J19 have been seen swimming with the calf between them to lessen its energy consumption. It’s an uphill battle but J62 has some fight in them!
