But you have to be careful with the timing of grenade, because although it's an off-hand weapon that you don't use left click to shoot, the act of "firing" the grenade also sets the variable to false. I prefer to shoot it at the same time as the last sticky, just before the primary fire shot.

After the first two crit, I fire third sticky at the body and immediately look for an imp to headshot with the primary fire, which turns the last sticky into a crit. 3 crit stickies isn't enough damage to kill the spider, but an extra precision bolt shot and a grenade mixed in can do the trick.

In this clip, the first shot is aimed at the spider's body as a non-crit, then the second shot is aimed at turret to turn both into crits before the first one explodes (requires decent speed via slow scrolled lurchhops, and getting a jump on the first frame after landing will make you fail).

It's set to false when you shoot something, and it's set to true when critical damage is done, such as when the projectile collides with a head or turret. But damage from other things, including the primary fire of the shotgun can set it to true as well!

So, sticky bombs are meant to have a short delay between landing somewhere and exploding. One of the weirder aspects of DE's sticky bombs is that there is a single variable for whether your sticky bombs will crit or not.
