I feel ya, something like a Valheim approach to Monster Hunter would be very interesting. More of a sandbox gear progression rather than the on rails story of fighting the guy on the cover. It should be worth a try at least. Capcom sometimes swings wide and that’s refreshing (seems like Exo is that)

I have seen the team try to evolve based on player feedback and that is not easy to do with such a massive game like this. And there is a LOT of feedback.

So, I’d say yea good game just some troubles they are trying to figure out. You will absolutely get your money’s worth just be a little baffled

that said I think it has one of the better stories. It’s not Shakespeare but it at least is more than the typical “we must heal nature by killing nature” trope. A good cast of characters helps a lot.

It goes without saying that menus are a nightmare. Online play resembling what a modern gamer is used to requires opting into 2-3 different party settings that are not really explained well.

MH is at its best when there is some kind of fair friction preventing you from getting the bobble you want. You talk to other hunters, lurk on boards, find out what works and try it. This feels good but there is almost no need to do this now save for timed challenge quests

Frenzied monsters for instance have so little health my crew was able to take one down in like under 3 mins, and that included riding to the monster’s location. No quest should be anywhere near that short.

There is no monster like that in wilds. And I think it could have done with some balancing to get more time out of all the very well designed monsters. A lot of people will probably just plow through to the end game very easily. And some monsters are just bafflingly underpowered (cont.)

The core loop of new monster, new gear is there and very rewarding. There is lots of new streamlining. And so progress is very smooth, even for newcomers. This means it lacks the walls that give a true feeling of accomplishment. For instance MG3’s Barroth being the guy you need to learn—(cont.)

If you’re even considering PC I’d suggest doing your research. It seems like people get wildly different results with similar setups.

I’ve only played on PS5 and had almost no issues to speak of.

you’re a true hero. Maybe if he’s still there in a week or so I’ll do the same.

I like to remain in demand, and if I become a mainstay, people will get bored fast lol

i recently re-did the placeholders for the crafting devices, which were one of the first things I ever drew. The progress is extremely tangible
