A federal judge issued a temporary restraining order preventing ICE from detaining Yunseo. The upcoming hearing will determine whether Yunseo remains free.

Yunseo’s legal team also sought immediate protection from detention by ICE by filing a petition for habeas corpus — the legal safeguard against unlawful detention that the Trump administration is now seeking to suspend.

Yunseo immigrated to the U.S. from South Korea when she was 7, and is a legal permanent resident with a green card. In March, Yunseo filed suit in federal court against the Trump administration for illegally targeting her for deportation.

Yunseo, a student at Columbia University, is being targeted by the Trump administration for deportation for exercising her constitutionally protected right to free speech and political expression in support of Palestinian human rights.
