Not many people know that back in the 1900s, a fedora hat was something completely different from what we consider a fedora today. More like a loose term. In the US, even a Homburg might have been called a fedora.

Another example of a Lord’s hat. Notice how the edge of the brim is simply stitched for reinforcement but lacks the ribbon typical of a Homburg.

Old photos showing hats resembling Homburgs. On the left, a photo from 1897 taken in Munich; on the right, one from 1930 taken in France. The crowns appear pinched, but this may be due to how the hats were handled — likely from being grabbed by the crown, which you should never do, by the way 😉
