In general, the worst move you can make is splitting a monochrome block on an uneven surface without a clear, mostly because you typically have a 2x2 space to dump it for free on. Try to work on preventing this and you'd be surprised how much less you will die.

It's important that all of these setups do not work if you create 2x2 squares too early in the setup. Dropping a monochrome too close to the setup is usually the culprit.

Also, when your field gets messy, you probably won't have 3 even slots to setup on. Prioritize a flat space for X-blocks.

I prefer to practice these in Leaderboard League -> Time Attack 60. It's a short run lets you have a lot of clean slates. This mode is in multiplayer but its basically single-player, so you can get good rewards while building good habits and pattern recognition.

For X or checkerboard boxes, you need 3 spaces. These take a 4 sweeps to clean and they happen in succession.

First two moves have the same orientation and the last two are flipped. If you think of column 2 like its center, you start, go to the right, then to the left, then to the right.

For L blocks It only takes 3 flat spaces and 4 sweeps. This setup is reversible, so you can have the corner facing right if you want.

The pattern is two blocks with the corner facing down, then the next two facing up. Also notice that the first sweep creates a clean H block.

These are all the block types. Mono and L do come with alternating configs, but H and checker only come in one. Clearing Mono and H blocks is easy since they don't leave behind anything (unless you split them on uneven surfaces), so drop them in a corner and let them erase themselves.

My favorite part is that it’s a manifestation of recycled art in the component space.

The Steam Machine and Steam Deck are not just shit PCs; they are THE shit PCs. You actually have to go out of your way to source components with that level of rejection.
