I’m on a bus again. Hoping to maybe spot my first ever horned lark. It’s not a super rare bird in Sweden but quite a rarity where I live.

It’s not going to have any horns. It’s january after all. But I’ll still be super happy if I spot it. If it’s still there that is. We’ll see.

Today it was a couple of minus degrees outside but the wind made it feel twice as cold.

I spent all daylight hours outside anyway. And I was rewarded by meeting some really cool birds.
Like this happy jay. ❄️

Open question: how do tech folks keep track of interesting events and conferences you might want to attend. Back in Web 2.0, Upcoming was great for this. I know @andybaio resurrected it several years ago, but not sure if it’s currently maintained (it seems to only have a Twitter login option […]

Those of you who know me also know that I watch this slow tv-show every year.

There is a distinct sound in the forest in that show: The sound of a thousand small circular saws.

This might be one of them. 🪚

Waiting for the bus. Going to attend a group walk for birders around a lake.

Hoping for rough-legged buzzard and waxwings. 🥰

It’s literally snowing massively and vertically where I am right now but who is out here singing?

The wren of course! 😂

Any new recommendations for books on birds and birding?

Not field guides though, I’m looking for stories!

I’m in the south of Sweden right now for the holidays. I did not bring my camera cause it’s too heavy and I know I will not have the time to shoot anything. I miss it a bit but it’s ok.

Spent some time at the beach yesterday with nieces and nephews. It was […]

It’s been a long time since I last saw the hare couple in my local park.
Yesterday I even thought to myself that they might have moved on. Would be totally understandable since there are way too many dogs there.

But today I saw them both again inside some […]

Found a happy jay in the low-hanging winter sun today.

I’m probably totally projecting but it looks like they are just as happy as me to finally get some of that golden light.

Where is the sun?

I’ve been seeing this lone bullfinch multiple times in my nearby park. Often high up in a tree calling with the melancholic “pju”.

I always wished for her to get some company and today it happened. She had a girlfriend!

Unfortunately I wasn’t quick enough […]

Today I learned that whooper swans can get wrinkles on their beaks.
Like crow’s feet!

I’ve had problems with dogs two days in a row now. 🫠

Yesterday was really scary. I was walking slowly along a path and suddenly I hear someone shouting, and a large dog comes running, barking and growling, straight towards me.

Really good video on lead poisoning in eagles and other raptors. Too bad it’s only on instagram and doesn’t have captions.

But if you are more ok with youtube than insta there is also this video from two years ago with English subtitles.

So I started watching ”Drive your car” on SVT Play. But was too tired to finish it.
And now they have removed it. 😔

Any alternatives out there where I can watch the end of this movie?

I’ve caved in and bought another camera lens second hand. It’s on it’s way and will probably arrive next week.
A bit more zoom and, (the best thing), better autofocus.
Downside is that it weighs more than the double of my old lens. But I hope it will at least be “draggable”.

Extremely excited! 🤩

Got a new owl on walking distance from where I live!

Felt very judged though as I passed by and took a photo. 😅

This week I was in Gothenburg for the @t12t event.

I had a few hours to explore during the morning after so I went to Torslandaviken. It was extremely foggy and at times snowing so you could barely see anything.
But it was pretty.

Why are you posting a blurry photo of a person?

Because it’s #wrensday!

Lets do this!

Spot the bird!

Good thing with these guys is that they have a quite distinct sound. If they were silent they would be so much harder to spot. 😮‍💨
