Without clear planning and sustained coordination with the US, Taiwan will struggle to keep pace with China’s advances and regional stability will suffer. More critically, failure by Taiwan to skillfully manage internal political contradictions will weaken Taipei’s credibility and reputation abroad.

Taiwanese people want to believe in Trump. Our pro-democracy media mostly covers him in a positive light. But his comments on Greenland, Canada, and Panama, remind us of the uncertainty that comes with Trump 2.0. He may not mean it literally but we should take it seriously.
