I find that AI do a lot of useful things well but if I ask it about the specialist technical issues I encounter it hallucinates hard enough to be useless, but with so much confidence that I get tricked into wasting my time.

Yikes, I meant 're-flash'.

You can run meshcore on most of the same devices as meshtastic. It's really easy to reflesh a meshtastic device to meshcore.

Yes, but have been replacing it with MeshCore which works a lot better. I think Meshtastic was a good project to spark the idea, but it’s going to be difficult to improve it to a useful level due to some architectural limitations.

I’m also not a Cisco fan but I certainly recommend a CCNA as a good place to start.

I had an issue with a Canon inkjet printer and came across a video from someone that found a solution. The solution was to smash the printer and buy an Epson. It turned out to be the best printer advice I got in years.

I used to think having a local mirror of Wikipedia would be essential for a prepper, but a few good LLMs would now be it.

I wouldn’t have to think hard of a design if I was asked to produce a custom batch of cupcakes for them.

This must be one of the best, or the best, job ads that I’ve ever seen.

It could even be something like an overly keen security officer using a jammer for drones, for 'protection', but if that was the case I would think it will be something the authorities would be very reluctant to openly admit for a lot of reasons.

It’s also a great variety of hairstyles and headgear.

I'm using a Taiwanese B.FRIENDIT keyboard that can switch comfortably between Mac and Windows and I've been very happy with it.

Yup, BBC radio 4. I stream it mostly, but if I have just an FM set it’s what I’ll be listening to. It’s something I find useful to listen to and I think only NPR is comparable.

It reminds me of the mystery patches on my lawn. I tested the soil and checked with a thermal camera and geiger counter but got no clues what caused it. It turns out that my wife poured boiling hot water on there to kill ants.

I've been into the FPV drone hobby for several years before the invasion started, so this is not surprising to me. The tech is experimental and fast moving and we spent more time fixing crashed drones or upgrading obsolete components than actual flying. However, it still evolves impressively fast.

It's 7 June 2025 and it doesn't appear to be available in the UK yet on Amazon Prime or Apple TV.

I think it’s also because many people outside of the core defence industry are contributing, with a focus on results, scale and resilience due to an existential threat. Very unlike the business of peacetime deterrence for profit.

cleaning up the clutter with AI didn't work quite as well as they thought

It was obviously not built so that the front wouldn’t fall off.

I think that chart is at best a great troll, or second to that a good demonstration of your point about how left vs right is of limited use.

When someone equates an ETA or ESTA to a visa I feel like Crocodile Dundee when I show them an a real visa application.

I think the scale of it is cyclical. Alternative medicine, woo, snake oil etc. has always been around but the recent boom correlates with the rise of social media 10-15 years ago. Similar story with snake oil and ‘patent medicine’ during the times of yellow journalism.

I've worked with digital electronics and microcontrollers for a long time, but starting to work with higher voltages has been quite scary. I only had to worry about a bit of smoke before if I get something wrong. With higher voltages you should not be catching mistakes the hard way.

I really like these conversation style videos, and your timing on the edits also feels really spot on and your acting is not bad.

The Sony PVM is also very nice, desirable and has many uses.
