Yep. Even out here in the sticks, well outside of Tokyo, the Mac where my 17yo works had a Chinese dude show up and order 25 Happy Sets first thing after opening. They sold out all the cards before lunch time. I'll be damned if a single actual kid got one.

I live in Japan, and have 3 kids in elementary school here. This Summer vacation, which for my kids lasts about 5 weeks, my 12yo's homework includes learning 1000(!!!) new kanji (Chinese characters), on top of his other homework. My 9yo, 100. My 7yo, 50. It's pretty brutal.

Ohhh... I don't know you, but this came across my feed. I'm on my second read through of this beautiful series, on my Kindle no less. I just can't escape this rich, lush world, his amazing writing style, and these amazing characters. Nothing else comes close.
