- EU is a good customer for US weapons and energy. Can't see Russia becoming interested in that quickly
- EU citizens are still friends of the US. By supporting Ukraine instead of Russia, US could (relatively) cheaply win over 40m more grateful fans. Russians will never fully trust US.
