There are extremely realistic flight simulators and they have their enjoyers, but because of their complexity and amount of knowledge required to play they are unplayable and unenjoyable for many people.

Aside from that realism can affect experience in positive and negative way, there is also an aspect of expectations differences between people and it is just a trait which can be perceived positively or negatively depending on the person.

If we want to implement realistically travel between cities and without fast forward travel it would be extremely cumbersome and time consuming for the players. It would be also extremely boring.
But maybe I misunderstood your point, so please explain clearer.
