Also this is probably just me seeing myself in this, but maybe they don’t like receiving gifts? Gifts make me VERY uncomfortable, and I know I have a very hard time accepting them. I literally had to teach myself how to just say “thank you”. Maybe they’re like this too?

I think it’s super understandable that your feelings are hurt!
To me it sounds like they’re one of those people who is super particular when it comes to their interests, to the point of being rigid. I’ve met quite a few people like this. It makes it really hard to bond over shared interests.
