I can see banning single-use plastic bottles completely but what is the point of this except to annoy everyone? It has the same effect as those GDPR-compliant “Allow cookies” pop-ups.

Finally I repeated the same test on a M1 MBP with 512GB Apple SSD. This one was surprisingly the worst of the three -- it only managed 20k 4KB write IOPS. This was running macOS Sequoia 15.7 with APFS FileVault turned on.

Next up is a 2018 Intel MBP with 512GB Apple SSD. This was also similar to the Win11 laptop. I was only able to do 60-70k 4KB write IOPS. This is macOS Sequoia 15.7 with APFS FileVault encryption turned on. Similar results with fio as well.

This is weird. I have a brand-new Win11 laptop (Intel Core Ultra 7 258V). It has a 1TB SK Hynix PC801 NVMe SSD. The spec sheet says the SSD can do 1+ million write IOPS. But if I run a disk benchmark, I only get 80k 4KB write IOPS. Seq write speed is good.

I have the setting in iOS 18.6.2 to retain messages only for 30 days and yet iOS doesn’t seem to clean up old messages for months. This bug has been there in iOS for a while now.

The workaround is to change the setting and then change it back to 30 days and it will GC older messages instantly.

Anyone know what this is meant to be? It’s everywhere in Shikoku’s 88 temples. #shikoku #buddhist

Best part of visiting the Cup Noodle museum in Osaka is watching a group of 5 European boomer men coloring their cup noodles with the Japanese toddlers and questioning their life choices. 😂

It's 2025 and we have AI SQL operators in AlloyDB now. The AI.IF() operator returns true/false based on how the LLM evaluates the input prompt for that row.
How can they do this quickly? Even if you do some batching, there must be an upper limit to how many rows you can evaluate like this?
