So maybe this is a thing that needs diving into definition of acceptance. Also the fact that the nature of intelligence isn't like conclusively settled in most fields either.

I mean, i'm super out of date at this point but the thing I typically saw as an undergrad was a lot of interdisciplinary dialogue and not necessarily a lot of agreement / alignment on methodological rigor and some sniping on those bases.

There was a lot of biologically inspired modeling but I wouldn't say that all the folks working on neural nets were like well accepted by the neuroscience community.
