I'm in the middle of re-writing the last half of this again, starting far above where this is, so I am uncertain if this will still fit in-context after I change the actions before it, but I also entirely stand by it.

His chest pounded as the implications of the act he'd suggested began to catch up with him. It was one thing to love Sherlock; it would be strange if he didn't love someone with Sherlock's exceptional qualities. And, he had allowed Sherlock to love him in return — selfishly, yes, but also because he could tell how selfish it would be to disallow him from pursuing his interest.
