Someone solicited opinions on authors using genAI images on a book cover--not generating a whole cover but just using a few elements. "Does this take away from the overall product/sent the message that the book was written by genAI?" they asked. I answered earnestly & attracted this genAI apologist.

My partner has been directly affected by OpenAI and other companies training LLMs using the LAION-5B dataset--their work (multiple paintings) has been stolen and incorporated into the dataset sans permission or license and used to train these models and now people like you are using it to sell their books and profit. There is no world where you "[keeping] it cost friendly" is going to make using this water guzzling plagiarism machine okay for me.
