Elpis Crystals worked by drawing upon the inmate magic in the air, and turned that magic into energy, essentially becoming the batteries of the new age. Not only that, but humans could funnel their own magicks into the crystals as well, making them infinitely renewable.

Elpis Crystals became not just the new power source for humanity, but it soon became clear that these had been the kind of power source that humanity had always dreamed of. Efficient, sustainable, renewable, and environmentally-friendly.

With time, humanity soon learned how to survive in this new world. The Duality lingered for a time, but once enough humans had learned and archived all they could teach, they took their leave. But before they did, they helped construct a great vault in the tallest mountain known as the Archive.

The Great Collapse effected far more than just the atmosphere; the magic released in the aftermath started to change wildlife all over what was left of the world.

Sea life underwent rapid mutation, as did the last vestiges of land-based animals, like an accelerated evolution.

The Duality.
A pair of what are believed to be gods, who stepped in to save what remained of humanity from the Great Collapse. Utilizing incredibly powerful magicks, they raised what remained of Asia above sea level and stopped the sea from rising any further.

(To clear things up, I’ve decided to drip feed small tidbits of lore and concepts from a story I’ve been cooking up. Expect more to come.)

The Great Collapse.

A cataclysmic event of unknown origin. It caused all forms of technology at the time to cease functioning, and caused the sea levels to rise and threaten to swallow the Earth. All but Asia was swallowed by the sea, and only barely was it not fully engulfed thanks to the Duality.

People like to claim that Pokémon games are becoming easier with each generation.

Past Gen 3, I can confidently say…no it fucking hasn’t. The battle system just became more refined with each entry, and it became much less of a grind. That’s all.
