double-crested cormorant(s). these waterbirds swim under the surface to catch fish. you'll see them dive under and disappear, only to reappear 30, 50 feet away.

three of these are goldfinches, and one is not. can you guess which?

herons--a great blue heron and a great white egret (egrets are a heron species)

A closeup of a wood pee-wee. they have a very distinctive call, they say "pee-weeee!"
this one flew onto a branch right in front of my and started singing.

had a truly astounding opportunity to photograph an indigo bunting today with @meatcvnt.bsky.social. this little guy flew around us for 10 or 20 minutes, and everywhere he landed the lighting was supreme. a real disney princess moment.

I touched up some of these a little more. if you zoom in you can see that the one on the left has a tiny little bit of snot at the end of its beak
April 30, 2025 at 5:50 PM
the one on the left I think is a common yellowthroat. and on the right, a female mallard bathing in a small pond in the woods. I love her and I hope she's living her best life.

I got some more pictures of swallows. I think this is part of their courtship behavior? I also got some redwing blackbirds in flight, which are much easier than swallows!
April 30, 2025 at 2:56 PM
as the sun was setting, I took some photos of plants
April 29, 2025 at 3:49 AM
I also had a very close encounter with some beautiful deer. they actually had me surrounded.
April 29, 2025 at 3:45 AM
...but also there was an egret at the marsh this time!
April 29, 2025 at 3:44 AM
of course I saw the usual mallards (gay mallards!), geese, and redwing blackbirds...
April 29, 2025 at 3:43 AM
I also saw them yelling at one another. getting right up in each others faces.
April 29, 2025 at 3:43 AM
