I think it's almost entirely a question of persistence. But also, maybe esp w/writing, we should stop equating "quitting" w/ "failure." It's ok to stop if it's not enriching you, but it's ALSO ok to change your mind & try again later. No decision has to be forever! I used to quit once a month.

Jeff Hiller (an actor who's been working for decades but definitely in a "toiling in obscurity" way) talks about "being a performer who's not allowed to perform" in his recent memoir & it really resonated with me. Esp in an industry where luck/connections/timing often matters more than merit.
