Queensland LNG exports: A decade of high domestic prices, falling local demand
Queensland marked 10 years as an LNG exporter in January 2025, and has emerged as a key supplier of LNG, primarily to China. Besides boosting Australia’s energy trade with Asia’s largest economy, the ...

The latest Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) report - Western Australia's GSOO has an interesting chart on #gas demand for #power generation. It shows lower gas demand due to higher penetration of #renewable energy and grid-scale #batteries under all scenarios. There is no WA gas shortage.

It was good to speak to @roycerk2.bsky.social about the impact of the start-up of #LNG in #Queensland almost 10 years ago and that has seen domestic #gas demand fall in eastern Australia and local gas prices triple.

“Gas eating gas:” Analysis warns new supply will do nothing to alleviate high prices
The decision to export gas from the east coast in 2015 has driven up prices to the point where it is destroying domestic demand – and won’t be fixed with new supply, a new analysis suggests.

Methane is jeopardising Australia’s emissions reduction targets; it is expected to account for 68%-95% of Australia’s targeted emissions by 2035. #Australia could abate two-thirds of its fossil fuel #methane #emissions using readily available technologies. ieefa.org/resources/pr... #gas #LNG #coal
Prioritising methane abatement makes economic sense

In its annual investor day briefing, Santos gives greater emphasis to carbon capture and storage (CCS) with plans to store 14m t of CO2 by 2040, (16 years time). Bearing in mind it took 17 years for Santos to bring its Moomba CCS project online from when it first announced the project in 2007.
