Practical: Sun will blow up in ~5 billion years, redundancy is probably good.
Not as practical: New frontiers / ambition are inspiring.
But, IMO, it's implicitly practical to have unifying goals ... could help reduce what feels like a lot of zero-sum dynamics in our culture rn.
