This is a pseudonym, likely a pun or an anagram, which I refresh as new ones come to mind. I’m not trying to be obscure so I’ll pin the post that explains my current nym.

I changed my profile name again. As I do whenever I think of a new pun. This one has to do with linguistics, specifically the “Kiki Bouba” effect. in another life, all my profile names would be names for characters in novels I would have written.
Made a great horseradish sauce:

Blend well:
1/4 cup cubed peeled horseradish root
1 smallish clove garlic
Juice of 1/2 lemon
Big pinch of salt
1 cup plant yogurt (cow might also work)

You can add more yogurt to dilute after blending if it turns out too strong

Good on vegetables, would be […]

I had a dream that someone was showing me some ideograms from an unknown language. Each was a rectangle filled with coarse half toned grayscale shading, as if from a photo copier, with a spindly line of differing shape atop it. The phrase I was looking at was “celebrity ceath match“, and I could […]

_**Luna - Teragram Ballroom, Los Angeles, California, December 29, 2024**_ As mentioned, Yo La Tengo is currently in the midst of another epic Hanukkah situation in NYC. Remarkably, though, that’s not the end of the band’s 2025 activities. After the eighth night on Sunday, Dec. 21, they’ll wing their way across the country to San Francisco to play a tremendous series of shows with Luna leading up to New Year’s Eve. In spite of my best efforts, I can’t attend — but man, if you’re anywhere in the area, there is no better way to wave goodbye to this ridiculous year. I’m going to assume the two groups will join forces at midnight for a 37-minute re-creation of “Sister Ray” at the Matrix in 1969. In the meantime, I’m consoling myself by enjoying a nice video of Luna in LA last December — a show I _was_ able to attend, happily. With my wife and daughter, too! A bright spot during what turned out to be an extremely stressful holiday trip. I’ve been seeing Luna for almost 30 years now, and they never disappoint. And even though I’ve seen ‘em so many times, this set at the Teragram had plenty of new-to-me action, including a guest trumpeter bringing some fusion-y funk to “IHOP,” an appropriately stretched-out “Marquee Moon,” and a fun, all-VU encore. Thank you, Luna! I’ll see you when I see you. (Oh and hey, my interview with Dean Wareham is still fresh over on Aquarium Drunkard — feels like a million years ago now, but it was just this past spring!)

Caroll Spinney insisted on donning the Big Bitd suit until the very end of his life. Even his understudy agreed that he and the bird were one. His final performance was in the year of his death, at Sesame Street’s 50th anniversary celebration, but it was shelved. It’s the understudy in the […]

The first person I ever knew who had an iPod was a freelancer who would come in to the studio once in a while when we were in a crunch. First gen model with the FireWire connection which seemed so fast. All that music and then he could plug it in to the Mac and start trading fonts with the other […]

I have long paid much attention to the musical output of Jan St Werner, so I don't know why I kind of ignored Markus Popp for so long. German electronica, man, it doesn't get any better than that. https://oval.bandcamp.com/album/now-never-whenever-vol-4

the real story is the way the country's obscenely rich have hijacked new and old media to pour lemon juice in the country's unhealed race and gender wounds to divide the electorate and derail genuine progressive reform, justice-oriented taxation, and corporate oversight

I'll say it again: there is a hard limit to how many satellites you can have in orbit without terrible consequences, and I am quite sure we are already above that limit, mostly thanks to Starlink.
