Amazing day with our new Level 1 students exploring the North Pennines AONB including the Whin Sill at Low Force and Carboniferous limestone at Summerhill Force (Gibson’s Cave). Hopefully they’ve come away with new friends and an appreciation of how our Earth influences our environment and economy.

In a recent paper in Nature Communications, Dr. Társilo Girona and Dr. Kyriaki Drymoni claim that their machine learning algorithm can predict upcoming large earthquakes.

We tested the method, and found that it does not work.
