My mother actually makes great turkey, I just never realized it could be good until my mid 20s because we always went to my great-aunt's for Thanksgiving, and having grown up in the 1920s/30s she overcooked everything in the blandest possible way.

Maybe just barely, but you wouldn’t get to make gravy or stuffing with it which are the best parts.

You can still see little flecks if some people are extremely picky (especially if you use red rather than yellow potatoes), but it saves a ton of time and mess and IMO tastes better too!

With thin skinned potatoes like Yukon Gold you don’t even need to peel them, the hand blender chops the peels so fine they’re unnoticeable.

Apparently the real description is a secret. I got interviewed once and they handed the real description to me on a piece of paper, and at the end I asked if I could keep it. They acted like I had asked for the governor’s email password.

Is this a government job? The state here only publishes this kind of extremely generic description (basically just whatever goes with the title) in a listing. Then there’s a real description for the specific job that you only get to see if you get an interview.

Both nicotine and caffeine are pretty acutely toxic. They evolved as insecticides and have been used that way by people!

It’s not, but it doesn’t seem like it does anything useful anyway, so I still turned it off. If you like having tabs for your inbox, that’s the only thing you need it for.

I’m about the same age as him and my parents called it “bamboo” when I was growing up and it was in our yard, so that tracks.

He was a Republican opposed to the Iraq War, which got him a lot of credibility among young people too credulous to look into why he’d been considered a lunatic crank before then. Lew Rockwell wrote the Rand Paul Newsletter back in the day and it was full of straight Nazi stuff.

One thing their competing pieces put in high relief was just how much better a writer Ryan Lizza is than Nuzzi, and he’s no grand talent either.
