I agree with absolutely everything you said except, "Silly cartoon." It was a serious cartoon in a way that was extremely rare for 1992. That was what made it special and why kids fell in love with it. It stood out among its peers for having something to say to children and their parents.

I played a lot on Switch and it's very fun.

It's essentially a Hades clone with the TMNT license, but where it distinguishes itself is co-op (both couch and online). That elevates it to my favorite Turtles game.

I think you're mistaking lifelong believer vs new convert energy for Catholic vs Protestant. It just so happens that the loudest segments of American Protestants glorify that new believer energy and have a sort of spiritual arrested development. Mainstream Protestant churches are more chill.
