As a woman, my evangelical upbringing trained me to believe I couldn’t take care of myself and make my own decisions without parental male input. Intellectually I know this isn’t true, but emotionally it’s harder

Agree - for me, it was definitely taken away and made clear that relationship wouldn’t be restored unless I agreed to go back to the way things were (being abused). I’m ok most of the time (years later), but I struggle esp. when I’m having problems

What’s so hard is that later, if/when you do stand up to them, they (a) bully even harder and/or (b) abandon you, destroying whatever minuscule safety may have existed. It’s crushing and recovery takes a long time.

Why now? Apparently our local Walmart is a bit busy right now. I assume some Mass. residents got some partial payments today.

Possibly the first “black” pope as the reporter defines it, but there have been a few popes from Africa. Are they lazy or too stupid to use Google or Wikipedia? I saw the same laziness when Francis was chosen and they said he was the first pope not from Europe. 🤦♀️
