Heute ist #EarthOvershootDay in Deutschland. Ein guter Tag um etwas zu reparieren.

That comic offers a key insight on the Circular Economy: Earth's finite resources mean even perfect recycling can't sustain endless growth. We need to talk about this more! #CircularEconomy #Sustainability

Meinungen?

Looking at the emissions of the annual additional production of photovoltaics, we getting a really different picture. The emission from PV would actually peak maybe around 2038 (Germany) instead of having a linear increase in emissions.

In environmental assessments of energy system models often Solar and Wind have emission per energy unit.
Why this is at least misleading:

Even if you add the CO2 emissions from the production of Wind and Solar power plants, it is still nothing compared to the other emissions.
But looking at other impact categories things are changing. Wonder what this would look like for resource use...

My research was about synthetic fuels for cars. The results can be seen in the graph. BEA = electrical vehicle, SD = synthetic Diesel, SB = synthetic Gasoline, the black boxes are produced with 100 % RE and the blue boxes with an energy mix for the EU. #LCASky

On the mineral resources side, it must be noted that simply replacing one energy system with a low-carbon one should not be the solution. We need to pay much more attention to ensuring that raw materials are considered in this transformation. CO2 should not be our only indicator!

The energy-related material intensity consists primarily of coal. It is therefore even more important to phase out coal energy. #EnergySky #LCASky

In this paper, material flows are offset against direct, indirect and hidden material consumption (the total mass requirement (TMR)). The IEA (2017) predicted a tripling of installed electrical capacity in three scenarios (RTS and (beyond) 2 degrees). #EnergySky #LCASky

The German Environmental Agency (UBA) just published emission data for the year 2023. Nearly every sector, except the traffic sector, decreased its greenhouse gas emissions, and Germany is on a good way to managing its goals.

Primary energy consumption reached a record low this year in Germany. At 10791 PJ, primary energy consumption has fallen by 7.9 %. Significantly less fossil energy due to poorer economic performance is one reason for this.
